Our Challenge
The new NZALS Centre was a timber structure from the get go, our job was to provide design input and work with the project team to ensure an efficient process from manufacture to delivery. Techlam glulam needed to work together onsite with the XLam CLT and Woodspan PLT for the walls and roof.
“Timber was chosen because the client wanted something sustainable and sensible in terms of NZ’s national resources. And then it came down to speed of construction on site with the mass timber design – that’s really what NZALS were after. We were keen to use New Zealand timber manufacturers where we could and in many ways our choice is proving itself.” - Bjørn Stankowitz, Structural Engineer, Engco.
The Techlam Solution
The Techlam glulam products worked well onsite, matching up perfectly with the XLam CLT, Woodspan PLT and using timber connections from Rothoblaas. An exciting project that has utilised New Zealand manufactured products in a stunning way. All prefabricated and sent to site and it went together perfectly. A unique timber building, for a great cause. The New Zealand Artificial Limbs Service are really happy with their new building and the perception it gives. The exposed timber and unique glulam tree in the reception is an awesome finishing touch.
Having the timber throughout really brings in the feeling of biophilia, and having this in such a special health care environment is an even better reason to utilise these timber products.
