A Relaxed Environment for Study

Our Challenge
EIT’s student amenities expanded with the opening of a spacious and sunny atrium adjoining the library building. Each stage of the project provided unique challenges. The facility consisted of a large roof structure supported by glulam ‘trees’. This called for exacting detailing to the members, with complex epoxy connections attaching the roof structure to the trees.

The Techlam Solution
Techlam worked closely with Gemco and their structural engineers to solve issues as they arose. The project was completed to the satisfaction of all involved, and students at the campus can now study in a relaxed environment all year round.

Products Used
01

Laminated Roof Structure

Supported by the glulam ‘trees’, the roof was a complex design with a compound pitch. This meant every post had a unique angle, requiring highly detailed drawings to ensure each connection was correct.

02

Laminated Flooring

Techlam’s glulaminated flooring was used to achieve large spans while enhancing the space below. The flooring also featured a high level fire rating for safety.
