Sustainable Learning

Our Challenge
Techlam were chosen to manufacture glulam columns and rafters for the Waimea College classroom blocks because we could supply the long prefabricated lengths and rigorous project support needed. Prefabrication of all elements at our manufacturing plant, ready to deliver to site was crucial to meet the timeframes. The project was to be completed in three stages over several years. Techlam was rapt to be involved in yet another New Zealand educational facility.

The Techlam Solution
Techlam worked extensively on the CAD modelling phase of the project to eliminate potential issues downstream, with all 3 stages coming together smoothly on site. We manufactured and prefabricated the glulam elements and delivered to site on time. The Fitzgerald construction team placed the product and it fitted together perfectly. Other timber products were used in the build - the Potius Flooring system and Nelson Pine LVL product for both storeys. Techlam provided input around suitable coatings and connections for the glulam product to keep the college looking great for years to come. Waimea College was co-designed by Sheppard & Rout Architects and Arthouse Architects - a collaboration resulting in a stunning design showcasing sustainable New Zealand manufacturers and products. A well organised project from the get-go enabled the suppliers and construction teams to deliver the project seamlessly.
